Dental implants are great solutions for teeth replacement, however when performed in the smile zone, they require detailed planning, careful techniques, and coordinated effort between the expert clinicians. This podcast discusses 5 key principles for achieving predictable success with dental implants in the aesthetic zone. Also, our guest expert, Dr. Vincent Prestipino demonstrates these crucial principles by presenting two patients.

  • Hi, in the case shown, I presume that crown lengthening was done for #21 to raise the gingival margin to match that of the implant at #11?

  • @pottermonster

Hi, no crown lengthening was done. Only the central incisors were treated. One with implant replacement and the other with conventional crown. The preparation and crown design was used to help create a harmony and alignment between teeth and gum tissue level. Dr. Kazemi

  • Is a bone gragt (ridge augmentation) possible after an implant has been placed? It has two been years, and some post-surgery bone loss has resulted in undesirable aesthetics. Thanks!

  • @asparch

Extremely difficult if not impossible. If there is thining or loss of bone in a narrow zone on side of implant, it may be possible, but to increase bone overall around it is not. Depending on the situation, some soft tissue grafting or re-doing the crown may be helpful to improve aesthetics. If these are not possible, and the there is a significant issue, then removal along with restoration of the bone / tissue and re-implantation may be the only option.

  • Awesome. Greetings from Europe.

  • People use to terrified of dentist, because their procedures seems terrible but they do all the procedures after giving sedatives and you will not feel anything. But after those procedures, you will have a beautiful smile.

  • From 700 B.C humans have used teeth made out of wood, ivory, gold tipped ivory and even human teeth. There were many accounts of scavengers scouring the battlefields of the Napoleonic wars pulling teeth from the dead soldiers to sell on.

  • @kazemioralsurgery I live in DC and I'm terrified of dentists.. I keep prolonging this issue but I've messed up my teeth so bad.. And the longer I wait the worse it's getting and I know it.. I've been living with toothaches for almost 4 months now because I'm absolutely horrified and honestly cannot afford to pay for the whole thing at once.. but also doubt that I'd have the guts to go back to the dentist. Is it possible to get everything done in one or two visits?

  • great case doc.....
