Scientists in India have successfully run a car on bio-diesel without any alterations to the engine.

The bio-diesel has been developed from a kind of oil-rich seeds known as Jatropha Curcas seeds, found in Asia and Africa.

Scientists say they have been working closely with many auto giants on the project for years.

[D.B. Sukhla, Business Development Head, CSMCRI]:
"We worked in collaboration with world famous Daimler Company for about six years. The diesel has been tested in its C Class Mercedez Benz and it has completed about 6,500 kilometers across India. Then we checked whether the engine has developed any defect and found out that no deterioration has happened to the engine with its usage."

The scientists at the institute have also launched a project with General Motors to develop Jatropha as a sustainable bio-fuel energy crop.

Under this project, a car was put on a test drive with the bio-diesel and successfully completed nearly 10,000 miles this month.

Currently, the bio-diesel produced by the institute is being used by some state-run organizations, including India's Defense Research and Development Organization, in their vehicles.

The institute had displayed bio-diesel's usage in a normal car at the international conference by the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists, which was held earlier this month.

  • Dudes of course a diesel car can run on bio diesel with out mods shorly airoplanes can run on bio fuel all bio fuel is. Is 50% kerosene 50%cooking oil or white spirit mixed with cooking oil. But there are two things you must do before fueling the car drain the disel out of the tank and change the fuel filter. you can use used or new cooking oil

  • This is still bull shit, i asked them and they said the yield of the crop is still very low..

  • @mmedefarge True!

  • This all ready all made in Europe!

Only the corrupted government and oil companies and what not are buying the right to build these cars!

  • @TheBonnerking I hope your right!!! I was working on solar gas-a-hol projects in 1980! Guess what happened when Reagan and Bush came to power! I hope the politicians aren't as corrupt as they are here!

    Good luck!!!

  • @1eyednewt

Let me tell u one thing about Indians , They r shrewder than Jews when it comes to money.

India is gonna power promote this after 5 more years...when feul prices go beyond sustainable norms This will continue as an additive at leas in India to maybe reduce prices ,... in the process shifting dependence From the gulf countries for energy to our home grown production.

  • Cost wasn't mentioned but it's always good to have alternatives. It would mean more jobs for people in Africa & India where the seeds are produced & it's probably also a cleaner-burning fuel. You hardly ever hear about the good stuff such as this or the smaller, more efficient wind energy technology which doesn't take up a lot of room or kill thousands of migrating birds. The oil companies don't want alternatives to their filthy fuels to be used or even known about by the general public.

  • Exxon and BP & company will by them all up or something crooked!
