New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Parsons The New School for Design presented the first annual Fashion Campus NYC, July 15th - 16th, 2011. Fashion Campus NYC is one of six fashion industry-focused initiatives announced in November 2010 by NYC Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg as part of NYC's push to help build on its competitive advantages and enhance its status as a global fashion capital. Fashion Campus NYC, which will be held again in 2012, is specifically designed to expose student interns to the variety of business careers available to them within NYC's fashion industry.

Steven Strauss, Managing Director at NYCEDC, introduced the capstone event for the weekend - a conversation with Designer Derek Lam and Simon Collins, Dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons. Lam shared anecdotes and advice from the past decade, during which he has diversified and grown his namesake brand through high-profile collaborations, unconventional partnerships and the launch of a diffusion line. He also provided tips for the interns on how to balance business with creative and how to succeed in any career path.
