Koa will be a Junior in HS this year at Hilo High School. He is built like a catcher and is continuing to progress at that position. He moves around pretty good and will continue to get better with hard work over the next 2 years. He has an average arm behind the plate and has shown pop times in the 1.9-2.0 range. His receiving skills behind the plate are good and will continue to get better as he sees better pitching and gets more innings under his belt. His speed is average for a catcher, getting to first base at 4.4-4.5 on a full swing.

At the plate Koa produces very good bat speed, but at times produces too much lift in his swing which causes high fly balls or top spin liners. It also causes him to get beat with a good fastball. Toward the end of a recent tournament he made some adjustments to his swing and stayed down through the ball better, producing better driven balls to the opposite gap. By staying taller on his backside he will stay on top of the ball better and be able to drive the ball with backspin and handle the good fastball. With some hard work and dedication I look for Koa to step up his game and make some very nice strides over the next 2 years and be ready for the next level. At a recent tournament he showed some impressive power hitting a HR that hit about 30ft above a 330ft sign. I look for that power to continue to develop as he gets older and matures into his body.
