This video shows an operational cutaway of a BMW S1000RR — a 193HP superbike — bumping against its 14,200RPM redline. A cam and valvetrain at 118 cycles per second is an amazing sight (and sound)

  • hypnotic stuff :D

  • I don't think that oil is vaporizing from heat, I think it is atomizing from mechanical motion.

  • i wonder how the springs dont stay open at that rpm?

  • I wanna see a Harley turning 14K RPM.......The resulting explosion should be awsome. LOL :)

  • i wanna see it at 14,200 rpm in slo-mo.

  • @kruczek934 heat whatever there spraying on it to keep it cool is vaporizing

its like the valves are always open at that high speed, heavy duty springs are a must

  • @kruczek934

Friction. And you're probably seeing a mixture of smoke and vaporized oil/mist since a lot of it is getting whipping around at a very high rate.

  • is it boiling? why smoke??

  • i think its hitting vtec

  • I'm still driving my 1995 Mercury Mystique DOHC and I think it's the engine I like so much. Should I buy a 6 cylinder Rav4 or a Subaru or what do you think?
