Stories from Gwaii Haanas - Ali Pearson was born in Haida Gwaii and raised in Vancouver. After graduating high school, she moved back to Haida Gwaii where she worked at the Haida Gwaii Watchman Program both as a watchman as well as a program manager. It was at this time that she developed a strong connection to the land and she knew that she would continue to work towards its protection throughout her life. Ali is currently employed with Parks Canada at the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve / Haida Heritage Site as an Interpretation Officer and enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for Gwaii Haanas with the public.

"Gwaii Haanas is part of Parks Canada system of Protected areas"...
Gwaii Haanas is first and foremost part of Haida Gwaii and will always be part of Haida Gwaii. Parks Canada is presently a self- imposed overseer of First Nations territories a "Claim" of ownership that dates back to the time of Gov Douglas who made illegal Claims on the land for the Crown of England.
The Rest is History.
If one is Haida by heritage one ought to speak of Our Heritage not of Their Heritage.

Alicia states her heritage as part Haida and Part Mohawk. Why does she present a Haida presentation with words as "Their culture and Their knowledge" and not "Our Culture and Our knowledge"?
Why does she distance herself from the Haida Culture? Is Parks Canada Culture a culture of its own?
