my old BenQ drive started sounding like that before for a month before it started eating games, and then wouldn't even read them. I think it's the laser's actuator becoming eff'd.

I have the same exact problem, except it makes this noise and also doesn't read the disks either.
I'm just replacing the entire drive now.

My xbox makes this noise 2 its an un-modded arcade version! rly want it to stop paranoid that it will break my discs!

yeah, mine sounds exactly like that, the buzz, the whine, the fan like sound and the grinding sound... i think that the benq drives are the loudest... we are the unlucky ones...

No it actually doesnt but if you didnt already fix this or didnt kno this to make sure your disc dont get messed up install to harddrive
