Flash Is Coming to Mobile Phones....and You Won't Need a "Smart Phone"

Video on mobile handsets will take off with the upcoming initiatives from Adobe. Called Adobe Flash Lite, Flash videos will be published and viewed on a number of mobile devices.

To further extend the reach of Flash viewing, phones will have chips that allow them show these files. On2 Technologies, whose encoding software is part of Flash ecosystem, is finalizing the acquisition of Hantro of Finland. The Finnish concern implements video compression for numerous handset makers including Nokia, Sanyo and others.

Bill Joll, CEO of On2 visited our studios recently to explain the future of Flash on mobile and other devices.

So, whether as a result of new encoding or Flash-enabled devices, we are going to see more video the handsets. It will be more than the few clips handpicked by the service provider. And, we don't need expensive smart phones. Maybe this whole mobile video thing will really happen on broader scale? Stay tuned.
