This is the title match of the 1972 PBA Showboat Invitational between Gus Lampo and Jimmy McHugh. Lampo had won three matches in a row on the telecast and is now facing the top seed McHugh. Good match, but not in "living color" as suggested by Chris Schenkel. Part 1 of 2.
I see they weren't using the PBA Tour Pair of Death, lanes 59 and 60 lol

It's Bud Palmer filling in for Schenkel...

I remember this tournament on a Saturday in 1972. I wish someone could find the 12th annual PBA National Championship. That tournament took place in October of 1971 in Paramus NJ. Gus Lampo made the final 5 in that tournament. Mike Limongello won that tournament.

Great lost video!!...although I think it's Bud Wilkinson filling in for Chris Schenkel on play-by-play (he's the same voice that did the Jim Stefanich 300 game in 1974, sounds like)...
Keep these great PBA kinescopes comin'!!

I love this match! The old B&W are the best. I loved Billy Welu announcing too. Do you have any pre-championship round matches from this era? they would be great to watch!

Looks like a high-track semiroller to me. A full roller is usually delivered with the palm almost perpendicular to the lane surface ("suitcase" style) and given a slight clockwise rotation upon the thumb clearing the ball. To me it appears that Gus has his hand reasonably behind the ball and is turning it counterclockwise upon release. Agreed the kinescope recording is not that sharp but at least we can see history...
Thanks for uploading this!

Is Gus throwing a full roller? We could not truly tell as the image is not that sharp.
