I'm glad you brought this up because people respect and listen to you. I've tried to tell people that there's more to it than height and weight, but if Lance Armstrong puts it on his website, it must be legit, right??
This service is offered at my hospital and I took advantage of it a couple of years ago. My daily caloric needs were a lot lower than I was hoping for!

Uhm will have to call around and see which fitness club might offer this type of testing. I do know that I always have to eat about 300-500 more than these online calculators or I gain! Crazy!

okay...where do I get that amount of money for one of those things?! lol
I guess I need to look around at who has one here. :)) YOU are ALWAYS FULL of GREAT INFO! I am gonna miss your vlogs! Don't be gone long!
"For Cripes sake"! lmao at that! ♫♪♫♪

Interesting. I had mine tested once years ago with the breathing apparatus. My scale gives me an estimate but my bodymedia fit device seems to be a pretty close read of actual cals burned. Still seems like a little exercise allows me to eat substantially more, not just calorie for calorie.

THANK YOU
Sorry, but this went completely over my head. Do you think the Katch McArdle formula will work or not. There are two forumula's in Toms book and it's basically alot of math involved. Are you saying this is not a good idea for accuracy. I really need to know so I can stabilize properly. Thanks for your help!

@msdavis74 Katch McA looks to be more accurate than the Harris Benedict, but you'd still need a reasonably good measure of your lean mass to be accurate with it.
Guess the main point is, you can try the formula estimation but if the scales don't seem to reflect well it might be a good idea to do the breath test, might eliminate a lot of frustration in long term weight maintenance.

What do you think of manually calculating it as per Tom Venuto or Protein Power. Or do you think that also would be an issue?

@msdavis74 To know you'd have to manually calc & compare the result to the result of an indirect calorimeter to check accuracy. Body comp plays into metabolism & most people don't know their numbers so I'd think most calcs would have a pretty wide error margin. With most things you really don't know until you know, I'd hope anyone creating a calc equation would have compared calc results to I.C. with a decent sized group to confirm accurate prior to introducing to the public.
