The color version has been released on DVD in the UK and Europe, but not in the States. It has fallen out of favor because they used a print that is quite inferior to the one available on DVD now. It was good for the time though. It was from a 35 mm print that had the restored censored scenes lifted from a scratchy 16 mm print.
King Kong was one of the better colorization jobs. The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers were done well also.
I used to rent the colorized version on VHS when I was little. I live in New York on Long Island.

I wish they would give this movie a brand new colorized version.
