Grey's Anatomy Parallels: A Study of Owen and Burke

Comparison of Burke's "I am Preston Burke" rant to Cristina after she "moves in" with him and he finds out she still kept her apartment. The second sequence is the Burke talk from "State of Love and Trust" where Owen confronts Cristina about Burke after trying to connect with her through hot sex all day saying finally "I'm trying to love you why won't you let me". Burke seems to be just comparing how different he and Crisitna are and how wrong for each other they are and its not really a conversation. Meanwhile Cristina and Owen actually have a deep conversation.

I thought Burke was saying how much better he was than Cristina but he loved her anyway kind of a back handed declaration, because he was comparing himself to her and tried to mold her into what he wanted. Owen's was more meaningful because he wasn't trying to change or compare Cristina to anyone, he just wanted to know and understand her.

It was really hard to hear Burke call her names. I wonder why I ever supported that relationship!

I love the contrast. Owen's speech was about his frustration, without once claiming to be a better person than her. Cristina/Owen is something I can support. :-)

Even though now I finally actually like Owen more than Burke. They both very good actors and those semi-monologues they each delivered were powerful.. But I finally get Christina better as a character and I relive these episodes. This is the best show ever! (At least one of..)

It's funny that when that Burke scene happened, I thought it was so sweet, that he could love her despite her flaws... but looking back at it, I think what kind of declaration is that?!? I'm awesome and you're a mess? I'm glad Cristina found someone who is trying to love HER, flaws and all and not in spite of them.
