    Here's what I read, regards her performing in bare feet: Sandie had bad vision, and she normally wore glasses, but she wasn't going to wear them for such a big contest; yet without glasses, she was afraid of tripping over the microphone cable, or stumbling on the shallow steps that lined the stage area. She removed her shoes so she could feel her way around with her toes, and avoid tripping - it worked, and the judges didn't hold it against her.
