Footage shot under austere lighting conditions shows this little palmcorder more than holds it own. Manual Settings were at -18dB, 60 FPS, and f1.8... no special lo-light, slow shutter functions enabled. Story here was car jumped curb and plowed into 2 adults walking on the sidewalk - Day after Thanksgiving 2009. Video was also converted and compressed for better Youtube compatabiliy... From its' native m2ts format to WMV, and from 1920X1080 res to 1280X720... As you can see, still looks pretty good!

  • i've been seeing a lot of test footage and it looks completely unreal, i have this camera and my videos look like shit, not even standart quiality..and when i convert them (i use (h64 / 1440 x 1080) my questions are these:

    1- what settings do you recommend to achieve this kind (including in daylight) of quality

    2- do you recomend mp4?, mpg? or WMV ? All of 'em in hd of course

    Thanx a bunch

  • @elfemto666 I convert all my vids to WMV (1280X720)as everything seems to handle them better in the PC/windows environment-Youtube now seems to be able to handle full 1920X1080 m2ts files but converting makes for a faster upload and still looks fine... As for the cam, you have to put it in manual mode and then use your Iris/Shutter Speed/F-Stop function-Iris should be @ 18dB, shutter at 1/60 (1/30 gives the slow shutter look) and f-stop cranked allthe way open. I also have a video lite on board

  • This is unreal !!

    I just bought the HS250 and every low light filming is so grainy it's almost unwatchable.

    I'll try your manual settings tonight.

    Where do you adjust the FPS ? All I see in manual mode is the WB, Shutter, Iris and focus.

    thx

  • If u select the iris mode, it'll give you lens aperture, gainup, and shutter speed which is the same as FPS....keep it at 60...if you go to 30, which it does in Intelligent Auto lo-light, it'll grain up. The MOS chips in this thing are good enough that with ambient lighting, you will still get a decent, clean image @ 60 FPS

  • how did you get it to look so good quality on youtube?? I just uploaded my video not to long ago and it looks like mpg quality :(

    please help me, i have the same camcorder

  • I shot it at highest resolution and then converted it from m2ts (its native AVCHD format) to an HD WMV file - it went from 1920X1080 to 1280X720. Then I uploaded it...the converted file, which u see here, still looks good and is about 1/3 the size of the original. You can't do this with the supplied Panasonic software tho

  • toastt21a,

    May I ask what software did you use?

    I am considering this camcorder do you recommend it?

    Thanks

  • Automatic settings does not works for low light conditions. Turn auto slow shutter on so you can use 1/30 shutter speed, and never use 18Db gain. Less gain = less noise. :)

    I always use manual settings for low light.

  • hey is this camera compatable with final cut express 4?

  • WB = White Balance

    SHTR = Shutter

    Iris = I'm guessing is your exposure

    MF = Manual Focus.

    As for the grain problem, I don't know how to help you. Sorry.

  • The HDC-SD20, while similar to the HDC-HS250, has a single MOS chip rated at about 1.5 megapixels while the 250 has 3 MOS chips at 3.3 megapixels EACH for a total of over 10 MP on board....Not sure if your video will match up with the 250's based on those numbers

  • Wow there's no grain in this!

    I have the HDC-SD20, which according to the camera guy, is the exact same thing as the HS250 except does not have an external harddrive.

    I get lots of grain, even inside the house with all the lights on, so much grain it's unwatchable.

    How can I fix this? When I go into manual mode, I get these options:

    WB, SHTR, IRIS, MF

    What do I do from there?

    Sorry I'm not camera savvy :p
