Scientology, is a religion based on the ramblings of a sci-fi author. Anyone wanting to be a member has to pay thousands of dollars. It's primaraly for super rich eccentrics...suckers...and idiots who think they have the spirit of a long dead alien in them. Are they fucking serious!!?!?

I would happily explain Scientology for you, but first let me correct a few points.
1) Scientologists are not open and honest about their beliefs. No Scientologist will ever admit the belief of dead alien souls and exploding volcanoes to you, because those who have not reached that level yet truly do not know about it, and those who HAVE reached that level are forbidden to talk about it with non-Scientologists.
2) It's not the beliefs that make Scientology dangerous, but the management.

Scientology ruins lives. It harasses critics. It breaks up families. It abuses the weak and the lost. It impoverishes the gullible, and then turns them to indentured servitude when they can no longer afford to pay their way to 'enlightenment'. It has no respect for human dignity, human rights, and human life.
Scientology plays on the victim's vulnerability and pocketbook.

Scientology is Not a Religion.
It is a Dangerous Cult.

It is a common misconception to believe people join Scientology because of the doctrine of Xenu. People actually come to Scientology hoping for increased intelligence, improved personality, and help in dealing with personal problems (as it advertises itself as a self-help philosophy). Later, if they had paid enough, they learn a system of beliefs based on science fiction stories, infestations of alien spirits and exploding volcanos.
This is the bait-and-switch aspect of the scheme.

Scientology is not a religion. During the 1950s, L. Ron Hubbard undertook a project of "religious cloaking", turning a system that had been promoted as a secular "science of mental health" into a religion through minor changes, such as referring to Scientology personnel as "ministers." This process has been detailed by former Scientologists. Furthermore, Scientology meets several characteristics of a cult, as defined by FACTNet.

Scientology doesn't lure in as many stupid people as one might think. The lure of Scientology is the social aspect. Friends lure in friends, lovers lure in lovers, and when one joins, everyone is excited to have you. It's not that there's something wrong with your judgment. It's the seduction of being part of something and fitting in with a community. Having a whole group of people who believe what you believe.
Scientology is one of the most dangerous cults around. Before you start assuming that there is no difference between a religion and a cult, let me tell you right now that cults have certain characteristics, including but not limited to: control of information, pay to play path to enlightenment, escalating commitment, social disruption, isolation, and pressure.
If Scientology regards you as a threat for speaking out against them, they will find ways to silence you by abusing the legal system.

@OpenComments Thank you for the reply. From what I have taken from people on this side of things, they definitely are much more harmful than helpful. I've definitely been feeling the urge to do more research on them, and it seems that from what I've taken so far, the research will only lead to me feeling the need to take action against their own actions.
