Sounds like the drums in the sample are conflicting with the drums you laid down, you should try running the sample through a low pass filter to muffle the dum hits in the sample IMO.

I like that dirty sampling. It makes the track sound raw, which is actually part of its swag in my opinion

I think the drums in the original clashing with yours gave the chops a more raw feeling to them. It made them more apparent and tougher, imo.
