We don't even need to tax coal or oil or gas. Just lift the subsidies! By all means, let's let the market determine the price of oil. It's expensive and getting more and more expensive to extract, transport and burn. People in the U.S. complain the oil prices are too high. They are the lowest of any industrialized nation. Peak oil is upon us. Get efficient people.

polar ice sheets have increased in the 2 last years and recent nasa studies have found that the more the climate temp. increases the more the atmosphere is able to release heat into space. that being said no person in their right mind can say the earth is not warming. the debate is what part humans play in it , the earth wamrs and cools all he time , being we just coming out of an ice age its entirely normal the world would be warming up.

The only thing I can think of that would really wake people up is if the West Antarctic Ice Sheet collapsed and global sea levels rose 20 feet. It would be chaos, but it wouldn't be civilization-ending and it would wake everybody up.

@ihatealigators For one year, nothing. But in terms of a long trend, it has been getting steadily drier in southern California for 20 years, and now the fire season, instead of lasting for six months, lasts all year.

@karangmail15 It's simple. In peer review, that's something that scientists do where they get together to discuss stuff like unproven theories and the like. If it holds up under their collective assault, then It's accepted as fact until proven wrong. So far, plenty of worthy scientists have 'ran the numbers' and last I heard, pretty much all of them agree: Humans have effected climate change by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air amongst other things.

@DarkGlitchX I really don't understand why people bring up 90% of the climate scientists assert one thing or another. When Einstein discovered the theory of general relativity, the majority of physicists disagreed with that view. Einstein then predicted the amount by which light would bend during an eclipse, Dyson measured it and then the theory was verified. Just saying 90% of people believe X or Y does not prove or disprove anything at all!

@ihatealigators Climate change is not a simple upwards transposition of year round temperatures. Some weather patterns may become more changeable and erratic, others may be less pronounced. For example the instance of hurricanes may decrease but the ones that do come may be more intense. You are right that many forest fires alone are not evidence for global warming, but the links have been found and demonstrated, droughts are getting worse, rivers are running dry and fires are on the rise.
