I have been listening to Rodney Decroo all week on my ipod...an amazingly talented young man who has influence traces from Bob Dylan and Neil Young in his catchy and powerful melodies with equally powerful lyrics. Then on the Utube I just listened to GOMENTE's cyber tracks of WizKil's "She's Gone" which had R.Stones and TheBand influences. All influenced a melody for this new song that I wrote about Boot Hill here just outside of Vancouver BC. Apparently, there are Boot Hills all over the world, graves for the convicts. This is mostly a true story that came about after reading the local newspaper The Vancouver Sun on Boot Hill.

Up High on Boot Hill
By ShirleySeary

Way up high on Boot Hill sits a dark raven
Above the coffin of pris'ner number ten
Amid forty-seven numbered grave stones
Pine tree root'n'black dirt that chill the ash'n'bones
Chill the ash'n'bones

Public cemetery lays just down Douglas Road
Folk shed their tears, just listen to their sad moans
At the edge of New Westminster's Glenbrook Ravine
Boot Hill graves stay forgotten deep cold'n'lean
Deep cold'n'lean

And dark raven circles the sky
Up high above Boot Hill he flys
Where forty-seven lone boxes lie
Lone boxes lie

"All you drug dealers, murderers, rapists and thieves,"
Cries dark raven to plots beneath the tall weeds
"You ghost cons can never leave this Pen's Boot Hill
Pine tree root iron bars never, never have their fill"
Never have their fill

Says Ten "I'm old and weary 'n' did my time"
"Let me go. So long I've quit this life of crime"
"Stealin's all I know 'n done 'til in this box"
"Let me free to roam like a crafty old fox"
A crafty old fox

"Your cries have been take by the cold strong wind,"
"Only the Devil shall hear from you who have sinned,"
Said Boot Hill raven to pris'ner Ten's lone stone
"Pine tree root 'n' black dirt will chill your ash 'n' bones"
Chill your ash 'n' bones

And dark raven circles the sky
Up high above Boot Hill he flys
Where forty-seven lone boxes lie
Lone boxes lie
repeat "Lone boxes lie"

The end
