In the musical tradition of Jazz Rock groups such as Chicago and Tower Of Power, Ballin'Jack presented a unique sound distinctly their own. With a little flavor of funk, their music could be heard being played in most nite spots during the early 70's. There were no discos then but we danced and enjoyed the sound of live bands.

  • @pdrummer123 Interesting! My first reaction when I read your comment about Ballin' Jack's manager declining Woodstock was that they committed public exposure suicide by missing that opportunity. On the other hand, Woodstock was 1969, Ballin' Jack's first album wasn't until 1970, and it's hard for me to believe they would have had much of an original repertoire in 1969, so maybe it was a wise decision, after all.

  • @kimrabb Was Tim there too?

  • @kimrabb Hello... Tim McFarland is my uncle...

  • @pdrummer Tim McFarland was a great musician, and the best Trombonist in the business. The magic and energy this band generated onstage was ready killowatt!!!! They could, and did, kill headliner after headliner...THAT is why didnt hit the top...after a while, nobody would let them tour, so they did colleges, etc.

Luther's funeral was surreal, and when they played "Found a Child" in the church, I couldnt help but cry, for Luther, the band, and for my youth, which slipped away with him...

  • This is my Uncle's band, I grew up in the 70's and sometimes the band would be home in Seattle and that was always fun to hang around them. Jimi was childhood friends with Uncle Luther and a family friend. Anyway the band should have been bigger but all things for a reason, Luther went on to join Santana and War and produce music, he passed a few years ago. I remember them in my grandparents basement, smoking and playing and me, only six or seven hanging around because they were so funny.

  • My uncle played the trombone in this band! His name is Tim McFarland.. He lived in our downstairs for a while and he is married to Susan. He is a great person. He met Jimi Hendrix and was offered to play Woodstock but their manager said no. And because of that, their band didn't get too big. I love you Tim. You rock!

  • onsop - thanks for posting this song/video. The single version is in the rotation of my new internet radio station, "OffTheCharts!" on Live365.com. Come listen for free! The direct link is on my YouTube page. Thanks!

  • I don't know if it was shitty management, label non-promotion or internal problems within the band no one saw- Ballinjack was one of those groups who should have made it bigtime but never did.

  • 1970. Let's see Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Sun Ra, Frank Zappa.,

the Good Captain Beefheart, Sly Stone( and The Family Stone), Jimi Hendrix,

Last Poets, I mean who wasn't good?

  • as good as chicago, pity they didn't continue
