Originally written and recorded by Joe South from his 1968 album entitled "Retrospect". Lynn Anderson recorded the song in the fall of 1970 and the musical arrangement was changed and it became a hit in 16 countries with the exception of France. Claude Francois stole the entire Lynn Anderson production with the exception of the introduction and released it in France, thereby destroying her hit version of the song, which is why no one in France knows the version by Lynn Anderson to this day!
