The stage of a patient's colorectal cancer -- how far it has spread -- is the single best indicator of prognosis, and enables doctor and patient to decide on a treatment approach. At Memorial Sloan-Kettering physicians are also increasingly looking to the genetic characteristics of an individual patient's tumor to determine the combination of treatments that is most likely to be effective.
