  • Pt Nikhil Banerjee learnt sitar from Ustaad Mushtaq Ali Khan for ten years before going to Maihar Gharana. He learnt the Dhrupad Ang from Senia Gharana. Please refer to his biography "Tar chire geche kobe". In Maihar, Pt Nikhil Banerjee took some lessons from Baba Alauddin and later from Ustaad Ali Akbar Khan.

Ustaad Mushtaq Ali Khan is pure Senia. There's huge difference in his playing with Imdadkhani baaj. One difference, artists of Imdadkhani baaj played D sharp, Ustaad Mushtaq Ali did not.

  • Wah, wah. bahut achhha!

  • Great going my dear! Love your performance . Shashi & Kiran

  • Well yes, that's true as a dry fact, but in NB's stylistics there Senia was hardly present. If we have to broaden our imagination to incorporate NB in Senia legacy, we would practically end up roping in all the Sitarists on this planet there. Most of the Gats that NB rendered are also purely Maihar compositions, and practically I don't remember any typical Senia Gat played by him. The difference in the treatment of Raga between NB's and Senia's is too obvious to most.

  • Great performance from a ten year old, expect more from him in the future.

  • I have not much information about sitarists , but I love hearing the instument while being played. It takes me to a different world while I hear it in serenity. I am amazed at the boys talent and he did give me a feeling of carrying a potential creative energy driven for becoming an artist.

  • When did Pundit Nikhil Banerjee belong to Senia Gharana? He was a disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan, the doyen of Maihar Gharana, while in his later life he showed remarkable affinity to the Indore Gharana, the Amir Khani offshoot of Kirana Gharana. Same goes with Ustaad Mushtaq Ali Khan and Pandit Debu Chaudhury, both belong to the lineage of the Senia Gharana, but a mature Debu Chaudhury is far removed from the Masitkhani baaj, and is closer to Imdadkhani style.
