This is one of the many robots in the Lego Mindstorms High Bay storage system built for Lego World 2009 in Zwolle and Copenhagen in 2010. It picks up the container from the small cart and deposits the card on the platform. The child can then pick up the card, which has a colour code on it, and insert into the scanner. The scanner determines the prize according to the colour code.
The robot was originally built by my friend Gerrit and later modified and finished by myself and Eric. The movie was shot by Gerrit.
The robot consists of two NXTs that communicate with RS485 in a master-slave configuration. There are 4 NXT motors and 2 small PF motors. The shoulder joint, which carries the biggest load, has two NXT motors with some pretty heavy gearing.
I don't want to know how expencive this roboarm was :D
