•The ninth FIBA U19 World Championship for Men is taking place in Auckland from July 2 12 2009.

•It is the third largest basketball event in the world and is globally recognised as the breeding ground for future global basketball stars with many of todays well known basketballers participating in past tournaments. Only the FIBA Mens and Womens World Championships are larger.

•It is the first time New Zealand has hosted a Basketball World Championship, and the first time the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men will be held in the Southern Hemisphere.

•62 matches are being played over the course of the tournament at two Auckland venues North Shore Events Centre and ASB Stadium.

•16 of the worlds best teams will be taking part; Angola, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Egypt, France, Greece, Iran, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Spain, Syria, USA

•Up to 300 athletes and more than 60 officials are expected to attend, along with numerous official FIBA delegates and around 100 player scouts

•More than 140 countries are taking broadcast rights, with an estimated 100 million viewers

•NBA stars such as Vince Carter (United States), Luis Scola (Argentina), Pau Gasol (Spain), Andrei Kirilenko (Russia) and Australian Andrew Bogut have all played in previous tournaments, showing all their skills and passion from an early age.
