hiranyakasibu is not an atheist. he has thought himself as supreme power based on the boons he has received. in Prev janma he was one of the guards jayan who take cares vaikuntham. due to curse he has born as Hiranyakashyapu and dead in the hands of lord narashimha an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. whoever gets killed in the hands of vishnu will get moksha and he has attained that.
