Lockheed Martin video of the first short take-off by a STOVL F-35B, aircraft BF-1, on March 17, just after it had completed the first hover at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. BF-1 performed the first F-35 short takeoff. The F-35B accelerated down the runway in STOVL mode and lifted off at 100 knots using less than 1000 feet of runway.

  • Beautiful... still not a fan of the lift fan system (takes up a lot of space inside the airframe, and can't be used in combat), but the program seems to be moving forward quite well.

  • I Liked that lift idea, its very smart..

  • cool clip thanks for sharing ..

  • The B version is just to satisfy the S/VTOL capability requirements of the USMC. Only a small fraction of F-35s will be this way. Praise to the USAF, USN, and USMC for developing one common airplane one of the only times since the dawn of military aviation. The cost-efficiency for development and maintenance is very commendable.

  • no its not, it just hinders the planes ability to fly. the f-22 is ten times better than the f-35

  • @stratosjoebar i believe youre thinking of the F-22

  • for a while but the will carry on soon

  • didnt they stop making them?

  • Engineering Marvell !!
