I've always thought the lyrics were 'Then a wrong word and you drop my hand' and 'Why must we go through these little scenes' (not 'things').

These are the lyrics that I heard so there are some mistakes, but ones that I know for sure after listening to again are that "Careless words I know you sometimes regret" is actually, "Careless words I know you so soon regret" and the line "And is that why we go through this for?" is 'what' instead of 'why' :)
