Slashy vid of Antonio/Bassanio from Trevor Nunn's Merchant of Venice, set to Rufus Wainwright's Hallelujah.

Lyrics:
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty
in the moonlight
overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne,
she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
Remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

  • They really are all over each other, aren't they? (Also, why have I never heard of this version before? It looks excellent.)

Is that David Bamber as Antonio? I LOVE HIM.

  • @dontcrosscross YES IT IS DAVID BAMBER AND I LOVE HIM TOO XD

Although I can't help thinking of him as Mr. Collins, which means I can't take him _quite_ seriously as Antonio. But he is adorable, in a really creepy way.

  • @casablancagirl93 Yeah, I knew him first as Mr. Collins, but then I saw him as Cicero in Rome, in which he was AMAZING, and I almost cried when he died. XD; So I think I'll be able to accept him as Antonio. Where may one procure this version?

  • @dontcrosscross Well, I procured it from this adorable small theatrical shop near the West End of London, but I expect it's available online somewhere too? I'd try searching for Merchant of Venice Trevor Nunn, if I were you.

(OH AND HAVE YOU SEEN THE LAURENCE OLIVIER MERCHANT OF VENICE? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD. IT MADE ME SHIP SHYLOCK/TUBAL)

  • @casablancagirl93 (Oh my god 1:16 WHAT IS HAPPENING lskjfh;kasjfh) Yeah, that was pretty much my first reaction after seeing this, but the only thing I could find was the 2004 version. Fff. u_u Why don't we have any small adorable theatrical shops where I live?

(LOL WHATTT. OK I GUESS I WILL. IS IT SLASHY?)
