What do you Harp guys think about this Mississippi boy's harp skill level? They call me $Daddy Rich$. I'm a singer songwriter from Clarksdale. Been playin' the Harmonica for about 1 1/2 years now and I'm looking for some guidance and criticism. So what level do you think i'm at and what suggestions do you have? I appreciate ALL comments good or bad.
I must offer a SPECIAL thanks to Adam Gussow, Jason Ricci, Jon Gindick and many others out there for the FREE instruction and tips on YouTube.
I SOLELY learned from the INTERNET and LOTS OF PRACTICE.
And like they say, i guess it's hours not years. Every night after my wife and son fell asleep i'd stay out in the humid mosquito filled carport practicing until like 4am. I think it paid off BUT i may have malaria now. Oh well, whatcha gonna do eh?
SORRY I'M CRAZY!

  • thanks, keep em comin'.

I guess you can never work on intonation too much. Master Ricci stresses that point. And I can sure live with "Good Intermediate" even "decent" intermediate would be fine. But keep on with the suggestions. thanks all! And hey, where are the other 108 people who watched this's comments? i guess i'm gonna go check the harp forum and they'd BETTER BE THERE!!!! ha ha , jk.

  • I think you sound wicked good to this guy up here in Boston, Mass.

  • Rick Estrin teaches the blues is a fun dvd and he is a cool cat.

i think you're rockin that harp tho ;)

<3 me some daddy rich...good seein you this week at jon's camp

  • i think thats pretty good for how long you have been playing. ive been playing for a few years now and i really started working on playing with a little more soul and rythm when i was about at your level. it sounds stupid but really focusing on basics will help you to learn new types of over draws, bends, and other rythm devices that you didnt know you could make. keep it up and also focus on hand placement i like to cup my hand over the entire time while playing.

  • hey bro. i own a harmonica. and have occasionally played it for a long time. im not a "harmonica player".however if u knew me i think you would respect my musical opinions. you are AT LEAST intermediate. sound pretty dam good broda, especially if u have only been focusing on it for a year. \m/ \m/

  • Hey Daddy Rich, remember me? I jammed with you years ago. Anyways, I'd say you're a pretty good intermediate, but that's just me. You've got a pretty good grasp I can see that but intonation would be something to work on. Good job :)
