20 years ago computer scientist Danny Hillis thought up a monument scale slow moving mechanical clock to serve as an icon to long-term thinking. 10 years ago a first prototype was completed and put into the Science Museum of London. 5 years ago the full size clock project began design. A few months ago that project began construction. Project manager Alexander Rose will discuss the process and methods underway in the Clock of the Long Now.

Screw the clock, the aliens will be going through YouTube's server hard drives and must have thought Earth was inhabited by trolls

@Zurround100 It's so when our TV signals are detected a thousand light years away and the aliens spend 9,000 years traveling here to put us out of our misery, they will know what time it is.

I can imagine 9,999 years from when the clock stops ticking people will wonder what will happen when it stops just as we did with the mayan calendar.
