As I was kissing Nick I couldn't help but flashback to the day that I found out Joe had left.
Flashback
I woke up with a pounding headache. I groaned and rolled over only to feel something hard next to me. I looked to see Nick snoring lightly. I looked around me. Wasnt I at the bar? I mean the last thing I remember was dancing with Nate, and having a couple of shots. I sat up only to have my head hurt more.
McKell: Owww.
Nick stirred and noticed I was awake.
McKell: what happened yesterday?
Nick: well you got drunk.
He sat up and looked away from me.
McKell: Sorry.
Nick: I dont think its me you should be saying sorry to.
McKell: He hurt me Nick.
Nick: but you hurt him right back.
McKell: Fine. Ill call him and try to talk to him, but he needs to explain too. And part of this is your fault. You kissed me.
Nick: and I apologized for it. Now call him.
I pulled out my phone and dialed his number.
Hey this is Joe. You have my old number I see. Im actually headed to New York right now. You guys are my friends so I want to say goodbye. If this is McKell. Im sorry I ever made you hate me. I hate that Ive hurt you so many times. I will always love you, but I guess us being apart is how its supposed to be. I know you dont love me anymore so Im leaving to give you the space you need, and the space I need. Love you.
And just like that it ended. I dropped my phone. I looked over at Nick.
McKell: Why didnt you tell me?!
By now the tears were spilling over. He just left without giving us a chance to talk about things?
Nick: Tell you what?
McKell: That he left!
Nick: What?
He picked up my phone and called it again to listen to the pre recorded message.
Nick: I- I didnt know. I swear. Its probably because of yesterday.
McKell: Nick, please tell me what happened yesterday. The last thing I remember was dancing with Nate.
Nick: You mean you dont remember?
I shook my head no.
Nick: I was laying you down on the bed when you told me you hated Joe. You said you were sick of everything and that you hated him and you would never forgive him. Then you told me that- that you loved me. Joe was in the room.
I caused him to leave. Oh my gosh. How am I supposed to talk to him? I broke down and Nick came and wrapped an arm around me.
Nick: well figure this out.
McKell: How?! Hes in New York Nick. Im never going to be able to talk to him.
Nick: Arent you going to New York for school soon anyways?
McKell: Im not going to be able to go till then. My parents would flip.
Nick: True.
McKell: I need a drink.
Nick: about that. we need to talk.
McKell: about what?
Nick: about your drinking. McKell are you stupid?!
He was all of the sudden really mad.
Nick: You were about to make out with some random guy who only wanted one thing. You could have seriously gotten hurt!
McKell: It takes the pain away Nick.
Nick: You dont need alcohol. You have friends and family that want to help you. Just imagine what Troy would have said if he would have found out about this.
McKell: He wouldnt find out because someone isnt going to tell him.
Nick: Ok, maybe I wont but youre never doing it again.
McKell: you cant decide things for me.
Nick: No I cant, but McKell I care about you and I dont want you to get hurt. Please dont do this anymore.
I looked over at him and saw the sincerity in his eyes.
McKell: Fine.
Nick: Thank you.
End of Flashback
I pulled away and hugged him. I didnt want him to see the tears falling down my face. Why did I have to make everything so complicated?
