A series of excerpts from interviews with doctors for birth film for fathers,"The Other Side of the Glass." I've been wondering what I could do to help our friends in Australia as well as here in the US where midwifery is constantly under threat. I realize that what Australia and the US need (and so many other places where midwifery and women and baby's right are being trampled) is to hear the truth from the doctors who are bravely speaking out. I present "Doctor's Voices" as a way to support midwifery AND the doctors who support the midwifery model of care/mother-baby focused birth and reform of our current system.

sensitivity of the glans and mucous tissue is most likely reduced, mobility of the shaft skin, but just barely, missing the frenulum, as well, and you will never completely know how pleasurable your complete foreskin would have been.

Maybe some people were lucky enough to get a perfect circumcision but many other men were not. For these and many reasons, neo-natal circumcision should not be performed.

3) There is all the mystery, shame, and embarrassment caused by circumcision. Parents don't in my experience sit their boys down and explain what was done to them, and why. They have to learn it essentially in the streets, or in religious classes where circumcision is talked about. Even then, it is not easy to understand what was done to you.

4) There are many things you do not even know you are missing. For instance, the

b) Sex, whether intercourse, self-masturbation, or masturbation by a partner, is not as pleasurable. .....

c) Penis is always pulled in closer to the body, appearing smaller. This is significant, especially during adolescence in places like the gym class showers. It even affects how you feel about yourself in relation to other men. Living with such a shortened penis isn't as pleasurable, either, because it won't stay where you put it in underwear.

2) If circumcised too tightly. There are several effects that this has.

a) Intercourse can be painful. Without lots of lubrication, it has always been too painful. Anxiety produced by expecting pain, immediately ends the possibility of intercourse.

"Negative effects of my circumcision:

skin bridge, a condition in which the circumcision incision bonds in places with the corona of the glans during the healing process. This causes the skin to be even tighter in those places, and covers up part of the penis where stimulation is the most pleasurable.

"leave the baby alone"... no need for cord clamping, weighing, etc. this is wisdom. but i now see now that dr. fischbein is ok with circumcision. this concerns me deeply... there is no need to cut a baby's healthy genital tissue. circumcision throws babies into a pit of fear, from which some never reemerge. only three cultures circumcise their young - English-speaking Christians, Jews and Muslims - see any connection between those three cultures and highly aggressive behavior?
