ive got the vpl-hs50 which is a 720p projector and is quality because of the size of my room the image i can get is limited to 104inch. the lamp is due to be replaced but has done well by lasting over 3 years.

Nah, VGA. Just replaced it with a Hitatchi Illumina PJ-TX300 which is 720p. Fantastic with blu-ray.

4.5 meters (about 14') - It's pretty much perfect. No scanning left to right and a very cinematic experience.
