In honor of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Hawk and the Dove, DIAL B for BLOG proudly presents the secret origin of the battling birds. a look at the Hawk and Dove JLU episode, which for some strange reason was titled "HAWK AND DOVE."

The show first aired on Saturday August 21, 2004. In it, Wonder Woman teams up with Hank and Don to stop Ares' plans to escalate a European civil war into World War III.

Note that in the episode (see a video clip after you look at stills below), Hawk and Dove, our two battling brothers, are voiced by two OTHER battling brothers -- FRED SAVAGE and JASON HERVEY from TV's "The Wonder Years." For more info, plus a look the Secret Origins of Shellhead, www.dialbforblog.com and go to Dial B for BLOG issue #439 -- Secret Origins of HAWK and DOVE

  • In all honesty, it was over 40 years ago that Steve Skeats and Steve Ditko created HAWK & DOVE @ DC.

  • Not it wasn't. It was EXACTLY 40 years ago! I wrote 60. My mistake.

  • I love how Dove fights - he uses almost no force at all! It even feels gentle just watching it.

  • Lol, I remember watching this episode on TV and I fell in love with it when the guy was like "How bout you kiss my ahhh!" I love it when the writers throw in stuff like that xD

  • You see, my dear thugs-that-hang-out-in-bars, when they put on spandex, you run away. I love these two!!!!

  • The Dialect of the Dance between Good and Evil in the Universe.

  • Dove is dead...

  • Hawk and Dove should have fight those punks in that bar without their costumes. Don't they realize they have lost their secret identities when they put on their costumes in front of those thugs?

  • Kevin and Wayne Arnold :D

Honestly though, I don't really like Hawk and Dove. The concept has a stench of politics about it that I don't like.

I'd just rather not have that on superhero shows myself. And it makes it nearly impossible for me to like Hawk especially (And indeed I really don't like him at all.) Because I LOATHE consies. And venomously so. But that doesn't mean I particularly like Dove so much either. I'd just rather not have any politics (or religion) in shows I like.

  • I find it hilarious that the gang of right-wing redneck thugs have a black guy with an afro as one of the members.

Not really what I'd expect to see in a gang of right-wing redneck thugs.

  • Is Dove Gay. I am a liberal myself but DOve seems to be gay.

  • these guys were always my favorite

  • and tthis is how i fell in love with hawk and dove ^.^
