"Bali H'ai" from Stacey's cd entitled, "In Love Again..the Music of Richard Rodgers" (2002).

"Bali H'ai" is a mythical island somewhere in the South Pacific. It's a song from the musical, "South Pacific" written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, now currently a revival in New York, Lincoln Center! The musical is based on the Pulitzer Prize writings of James A. Michener's "Tales of the South Pacific."

Stacey Kent's rendition is beautiful... much jazzier and softer in mood. Her husband, Jim Tomlinson (an accomplished sax player often compared to Stan Getz) collaborates on this CD ... and Dave Newton, playing amazing piano on this...

Actually this song has nothing to do with Bali, Indonesia. Bali Hai is that mysterious volcanic island(atoll?) in the Pacific in the Roger's & Hammerstein musical and movie 'South Pacific' where this beautiful song is from. Stacey's beautiful voice is just right for it.
