P-3 Orion Search and Rescue Mission off the coast of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, finds Twainese fishing boat on fire, 12 crewmembers, launch SAR kit to save crew.
Looks fun. What you probably don't know is that the P-3 is plenty capable of doing an aileron roll.........did that off the coast of Guam in 90 also. I have 5000 hours as an F.E. on the plane. Miss the plane but not the Navy...
VQ-1 dropped em plenty of times out of Guam. We used the bounce birds. Hell, I remember the SEALs jumping out over there, that was fun to them and no you will not hit the horz stab.
Awesome job! I remember drilling for SAR drop on my TACCO check ride in the early 90s. I never met anyone who actually needed to drop a SAR kit. Nice to see the P-3 crews are still getting it done!
If one were accidentally fall out of the hatch .... would the SEK kit be of much help at 170 KPH? I imagine that one must wear this extra gear in the event you kart wheel in? How many G's do you think that would be? Who invents these procedures?
I flew on CAC-3 from 1991-1995, but in VP-10.

I'm currently stationed with VP-26... I was unaware that we had ever deployed a SAR kit. Strange this isn't talked about at work.
