it was rigged by john squire who was always embarrassed about Ians voice. He thought it better to do a stunt than play the whole tune & get slated by the critics.
He payed off the BBC sound techs.

Yeah - not the first time on TV. First time they did a live broadcast.I was watching this when it happened and I was also watching The Other Side Of Midnight about a year or so before when they were on that.
Took me about 5 years before i realised he was shouting AMATEURS!
