@hempev Yeah that's true. I did Matsu Higa no Tonfa and the rest of them did forms where you throw you weapon in mid-air and catching it and all that stuff. I give to them, they know how to rock the crowd, but when it comes to classical forms, there's no way you can mess around and I proved that. I came out there and shut them down. Got the bragging rights. lol.

Glad to know the second guy won, he was really good. Shame that all the flash crap is so popular, and dare I say... the musical kata people do now..

hahaha what the hell is that dancing guy doing?
I competed in a tournament last weekend and I did a traditional weapons kata and did a traditional kata and I beat the flashy competitors getting 1st place in both categories because the rest of competitors lacked balance.

@SithV1 Balance and usefulness are the reasons I prefer to watch traditional forms instead of "cinematic" or "acrobatic".

how can the 1st one be called martial arts

@exodiaxk90 I don't know how a *lot* of what is called martial arts can honestly call itself that! Reminds me of a bad movie call Gymkata...

Yea: the gymnast was entertainment, not martial arts. Kicking straight up shows flexibility, but who is he kicking and what happens when he connects? Solid stances like neko-ashi-dachi (cat's stance with one foot barely on the ground) and san-chin-dachi (one foot forward and slightly turned out) are the basic you want to see, no matter what the hands are doing.
