Mars Hill's Pastor Shane Hipps addresses the church on Rob Bell's new-release. He assures us that the book is fresh & liberating, but it rests firmly in the wide stream of orthodox-ed Christianity. [March 6, 2011]

  • Both Rob Bell & Shane Hipps have Master of Divinity degrees, so they are not uneducated. Just for the record, even if they were high school dropouts, wasn't Jesus the son of a lowly carpenter. weren't his first disciples fishermen, money collectors and assorted unseemly types? so where does it say that you need a PHD to preach the gospel.

  • @Rainy64

Yes he did talk more about hell than haven.

The same way as a doctor speaks about sickness with his patients and what can happen if them let the disease grow. Jesus did not came to make us believe that the way we are living is okay and we are going to heaven. He came to heal us.

And probably He didn't talk to much about haven because He want us to see with our own "eyes".

  • @agente180 u rock brother, just for the record

  • 27 books in the new testiment and 364 warnings of hell and judgment, Rob Bell has nothing to speak into my life thank you!!!

  • I have been studying the original text in the Bible for years aside from church influence and have come to the same points as Rob Bell before knowing about him. I am a historian and can also see many churches today follow erroneous medieval interpretations rather than the original church orthodoxy. I am ready to stand for truth and so are many. And the truth shall set you free. In love.

  • Actually Jesus spoke more about an immanent (soon to come) judgement upon them. Immanent not for us but for them. The apostles understood and taught the same (even LaHaye says so). That generation back then was not going to pass before all those things took place.

  • Jesus talked more on Hell than Heaven.....

  • A hearty thank you for posting this, friend.

  • Wow, a WHOLE YEAR....Geeesh. Big deal. Verging on a cult here. Typical uneducated clergy fawning over something that deserves nothing. No wonder people are turning away from Xnty.

But the point about someone taking a "year" to write a book is a joke.

"Wide stream" of Xnty...like Origen? (snip, snip) The Pole sitters? What a bunch of clowns....

  • I will have to check the book out...
