I was a Lucky Soul in that my father introduced me to Harry at a young age of I don't know 8 or 9 and brought me to a concert at the Greek in LA and I must say that the Love of Harry's passion for life and desire to help humanity shaped me prior to the fact that I knew it was happening. But I want to say THANK YOU to my father and Harry. Thank You for directing on the path of compassion and empathy. I GO to IT everyday!

Looking at other comments I must admit to feeling lucky. I went to a normal, British school where my creativity was nurtured and encouraged, pictures sent to galleries, praise and encouragement aplenty. My daughter is at a school where creativity is equally as cherished and nurtured. I don't say any of this to feel smug but just to point out that there are still schools out there, and indeed teachers, who see the importance of free thinking and creativity in our children, bless them for that.

It's such a shame how true this song is. Creativity is almost always pushed back by teachers it's terrible. Fitting into pure logic and labels ruins the imagination and suppresses peoples ingenuity. It's so sad that it seems people can't be unique anymore. I think teachers everywhere should listen to this song and learn the message behind it before they teach their children.

I was lucky enough to have a loving parent that introduced me to this song at an early age. Harry Chapin is truly inspirational.Years later,I wound up in a high ranking art school, and I still got in trouble for symbolically painting flowers different colors.I keep designing new things and always try to draw something that no one has seen before.I just love creativity and I hope that I never lose my love of learning and I hope that this song reaches many children out there, because it's important

I had plenty of teachers--I use the term loosely--like this. They seem and seemed self-righteous. I have heard from friends with kids that this tragic philosophy flourishes today. The instructors seem to find free-thinking and expression treasonous. The younger of our schoolteachers, indeed, almost all of them, are victims of the same philosophy. After all, look at the boy at the end.

Like most of you have already stated...I was one of the little fertile, overly creative minds and I didn't have a single teacher who understood it. Can't do much about that, but I can do something to make sure my own kids aren't made to feel bad for being creative. Love Harry...always have always will.
