What is an annuity?
To make it simple the purpose is income at some point weather it is income immediately or some time down the road. An annuity is simple an investment contract between you and the insurance company similar to a CD, a CD is like an investment contract between you and the bank. If you understand the four types of annuities and the pros and cons of each then you would understand what that money is for. The first type of annuity is an immediate annuity which is like a pension; you put a lump sum of money in there and get income for life. The second type of annuity is called a fixed annuity: Which is like a "CD" you know exactly what kind of earnings you're going to make, So you're going to get a fixed rate of income for a period of time, but your money grows tax advantage, your money does not get taxed while it grows.
