Trombone Suicide Routine, Lake Oswego High School

The Lake Oswego High School Trombone and drum section pulling off the Trombone Suicide for the first time ever. This is entirely a student project -- led primarily by myself and Andy Morrow, the trombone Sect leader. As far as we know, we're also the first oregon school to do this (tell me if i'm wrong though, fellow oregonians). We got the idea from youtube.

At this game, we experienced severe winds, rain (which quickly turned to hail) and lightning, so the team was rushed off the field. So, we took advantage of bored students and an open field and premered the routine, and even got on TV. We got kicked off, but the students were so entertained that we did for them again later, and even got on TV again (I could never get ahold of that footage though, sorry).

Saw "Lake Oswego Trombone Suicide" and missed the "Lake" so I thought it was a couple of kids from my band doing the suicide they did after every competition this year.

My dad did that in 1979! It was called "the Horse" then but it was the same thing.

History repeating itself... Former Laker Band Director Frank Chin had the Laker Marching Band perform this very routine starting in the fall of 1979, yes 1979!! Just one little note though, in 1979 the ENTIRE band including Sousaphones performed it during the eight measure drum solo near the middle of "Gospel John". 30 years later and it still looks FABULOUS! Great job Laker Band! JM - Class of '83
