UPDATE: We restored the bus and drove it over the rocky mountains then all the way to the west coast with a 50 year old 36hp crank start motor! Watch me crank her up and go. I am now looking for another old vw bus to buy and restore and take on yet another adventure. The older the better.
I paid $1100 for Glinda as-is in the middle of the NM desert so you can see what I am willing to endure to locate my next vw bus restoration project. What majic bus will be next? Quesstions: (1) why are there Japanese characters on one of the vehicle tags? (2) When did VW go from being a GmbH to an AG? (3) bearing in mind that's a 36-horse engine, could a Bosch 009 (non-vacuum-advance) distributor have been a better choice? (4) is the Solex carburetor a 28PICT? Nice van, BTW!
