this seems, as usual, totally over-engineered to me. Too many segments that have to all work in perfect sequence and are not reusable. Why not spend the last 50 years developing a single set of thrusters which lift and land the capsule a la spacex?

Не понял о.О
Это очень старая система экстерного спасения экипажа ракеты. лет 40 назад спасла 2ум космонавтам жизнь.

In addition, Ares1 must almost be the size of the Saturn rocket to have enough power just to carry this massive escape system. All because NASA wants to use Shuttle solid engines. See youtube Delta II explosion to see solid rocket fuel destruction and why the escape system must be designed to pull you miles away.
-
This massive extremely heavy escape system is only needed because Ares1 uses dangerous solid rocket fuel. You must have to get miles away so that solid rocket debris chunks do not destroy the parachute. That is why Soyuz, Falcon9, Saturn 1B do not need such a giant escape system because they use liquid fuel.

RTFM idiot. its very well russian disighn, and it was sinse begining space age. stop to watching us shit propaganda.

I have the real LAS launch on my channel. It went exactly as planned, just like this video. Give it a look.

@maximusmku Not russian design. This design is based on mercury, gemini and apollo design. The russian did not have an les on the first missions.

1. Does it matter what the parachutes look like provided that the can work?
2. USSR didn't fly a manned spacecraft with an LES until 1967 during Soyuz 1. Vostok had ejection seats and Voskhod had nothing. The first American manned flight with an LES was in 1961 on MR-3.

Dude this is 1-Y NOT X
check out jontheking100's abort video, its pretty sweet
-
lol, he got it all wrong. Pilot parachutes by definition are the chutes that pull the main parachutes out. Drogue parachutes by definition are parachutes intended to slow forward motion, he got them backward
If it can save even just one human life it will already be a good thing :)
