The Movie Show Online interviewed Director Dito MONTIEL about his first feature film.

Set in Astoria, Queens and based on Dito MONTIEL's memoirs of the same name, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints explores the life of a group of mid-eighties youth, centred around the young MONTIEL (Shia LaBEOUF). Now a successful writer, the mature MONTIEL (Robert DOWNEY Jr.) is summoned home by his mother (Dianne WIEST), to attend his sick father (Chazz PALMINTERI). The journey home, after a 15 year estrangement, brings memories both good and bad, of the many friends who didn't make it and the many angels who helped MONTIEL survive and journey forth.

  • i wan2 know the real antonio

  • what a beautiful movie! reminds me of growing up in the NYC.

  • @ImaBluntBeingSmoked ... astoria line was NEVER as f'd up as those in different yards overnites--and in the movies and boobtube land, they showed the SAME shite over and over

  • this movie has nothing to do with the book.

it's like a warped version of the book

  • the soundtrack doesnt match up. it is generally from the mid to late 70's and the m ovie is set in the mid 80's.

  • this movie is fucking awesome!!!

  • From 1:40 to 1:43.....

    That's real. That's it!

  • this movie does look pretty good but i personally think they missed a huge part because they didnt incorporate the graffiti on the subway considering it is set in like 1986 when the NYC subway system was completly covered in graffiti just think it was something that was important in that era and would have been the icing on the cake to this movie

  • @AnoymonousOvation

    same here

  • I am a sucka for coming of age stories/hXc history/biogs of people who have affected my life through whatever medium...so this movie was a no brainer for me...but one of the best pieces of film...who didn't see their own life reflected in Dito's story?
