Video shows the Marfa Lights, a tour of the historic town of Marfa, and the Marfa Lights viewing center. It includes information about viewing the lights and visitor's comments.

The lights are mysterious and unexplained (but what tourists generally view are traffic lights). Some think they are UFOs, aliens, St. Elmos fire, electrostatic discharges, swamp gas (no swamp), ghosts, or the spirits conquistadores.

The location is near the Rio Grande River and close to Mexico. A historical marker for the town of Presidio, near Big Bend, is near by. It is said to be Americas oldest town¬around 10,000 years old. It was initially inhabited around 1200 A.D., which was more than 500 years before the Declaration of Independence, and it was founded in 1683 when Jesuit priests from El Paso established missions in the area

The historic town of Marfa contains a beautiful, big courthouse as its dominant landmark. A number of movies have been made in the scenic area, such as No Country for Old Men and There will be blood. The classic 1956 Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, and Rock Hudson movie "Giant" was filmed here.

It was built in 1886 in Presidio County, which helped Marfa remain the Presidio County seat. Unlike many small Texas towns, Marfa's central area is dotted with art galleries and fine restaurants. Mercedes-Benz SUVs can be found along the old pickup trucks of ranch hands.

The Marfa airport is nearby, where there are glider rides.

Video also shows an observation balloon. Some think this was positioned not only to observe human activity in the area, but also the Marfa lights or UFOs.

  • @mary5709 thats what i think it is, the dept of energy has been dumping toxic waste in andrews,tx for somtime. if u wiki andrews texas it will tell u about it. but marfa is not to far from andrews. i think it really has somthing to do with it.

  • @sandosrules I was thinking maybe radioactive materials or electromagnetic fields of some sort

  • @Ccrazyfella Nope various scientific teams have shut the hiways down and darkened Marfa city lights and ruled out refracted, or reflected light.

  • How much miles away are they from the viewing center?

  • I thought that as well, but the lights apparently only appear around 30 or so times a year. I highly doubt there's only 30 nights of traffic on those highways. wish there was an explanation it's driving me crazy.

  • Could they be refracted car lights off of the surrounding soil?

  • can I pitch a tent at this site? you, know, camp a few days? I would take the bus to Marfa, and walk to the site.

  • there are tours you can catch and they take you out to see them

they arnt aliens not that im a non believer but believe me there worth seeing but its nothing special better bring some vodka :)

  • whats a good day to come to marfa, im off on mon-wed, do you think i could see them, im from dallas, and want to make a road trip to marfa.
