John and I headed northeast along the A846 from Craighouse on Saturday morning. The weather had improved but it was still quite windy.
After leaving Craighouse we jogged for about a kilometre before turning left towards Keils and making our way up past the cemetery. We headed first for Junior Check point 3, which was located on Glas Bheinn. Having successfully located this first marker we then made our way to Junior Check point 2, located near a group of five lochans on Cnuich Charrach. We were lucky in finding the second marker without difficulty. We then made our way to the first Pap, "Beinn a'Chaolais," by skirting around Beinn Mhearsamail. After a steep climb we found the first Senior Check point on the summit of Beinn a'Chaolais.
I captured our decent from Beinn a'Chaolais in a series of pictures. The descent was over an unstable boulder field, with some of the rocks having razor sharps edges, which easily tore up the soles of my Inov-8 shoes. After trapping my feet in between several rocks I will be investing in some ankle protection!
