That is probably why huge earthquakes consistently hit Christchurch and not Auckland or Wellington. When a society such as the city councillors of Christchurch and even the NZ PM, tries to mock God openly, what you get in return from God is not a slap in the face but giant earthquakes to destroy your city. Chances are the city is so destroyed, it will never be able to regain it's former glory again and it will be probably be deserted by a large portion of its population.

The city of Christchurch ostensibly bears the name of Christ the Saviour. And yet their city council officially appointed a real wizard as the Wizard of Christchurch, honored him with an annual honorarium and allowed him to freely cast spells about the city. Weren't they just asking for God's judgement upon themselves? Earthquakes are what you get for mocking God! At least the Wizard had more sense than the councillors & has planned to leave Christchurch after the earthquakes.
