What really sucks is that the female voice has an awful american accent.

Google has probably the best advertising team of all time.
-
@yahoowizard Mh, yes? And then you'll look up "pizza shops near xxx" and they'll be able to guess you were (or live?) near xxx. Then you'll use google maps and search for a place near your home. Then they'll also use their IP tracking tool that they already do to determine from which area you're from. Then use your youtube history to know that you really, really like Ikea chairs. Then, then...
This example is of course ridiculous but I'm trying to show how little things can be used
-
@foobarbe Lol, what? The only problem I see there is me shoving a chair leg up my ass and asking the internet for a solution. That is not personal at all as long as they're not putting my name next to it, and the biggest consequence is that they're going to try to sell more chairs to Americans aged 15-30.
-
@yahoowizard Ok let me take an example: if you shove your Ikea chair leg in your ass, Ikea won't know. If you look up "how to shove my chair leg in my ass without pain" on Google, they will know, and it's likely that they'll advertise you with chairs, sell to whoever the data showing that "some people, from the US (assuming you're from there), between 15 and 30, shove their leg chair in their ass".
Can you see the problem here?

@foobarbe Matters what you classify as "personal." As long as they're not distributing my email contents or my credit card numbers to random people, I'm good. Not sure what you're considering to be a violation of your privacy.
-
@yahoowizard I'd advise you to have a look at their "privacy" terms to find out that they indeed do "state otherwise".
-
@foobarbe You do know that's not true, right? You can't just make up conspiracy theories and then use it as an argument. The personal information you do provide them is confidential, unless they state otherwise.
Literally watch this commercial at least once a week. Cry a little bit every time.

This needs to be studied in business and advertising courses. Easily the best commercial I've ever seen.
