This yirdaki was used ceremonially at Ski Beach (Gunyangara' community) when Djalu and family were living there. It is an instrument made by Buyangirr who has crafted and painted some amazing yirdaki in her time.

The instrument plays in the key of G. It is highly responsive and ultra-sensitive to pressure changes, one of those instruments that almost plays by itself with hardly any effort on the part of the player. It also has tremendous resonance, power and loudness. And stunning ochre artwork to boot!

Adam Marrilaga puts it through its paces here, it is the first instrument we recorded today. After many months of non-practice, he still has it.
